What “Treat” Did a Mom Give Her Epileptic Kid That Led to Run-in with Child Protective Services?
- Sugar-free Lollipops
- Special Brownies
- Seaweed Shake
- Pot Smoothie
Answer: Pot Smoothie
A mother from Idaho had her children taken from her by authorities after giving her daughter, with epileptic symptoms, marijuana butter in a smoothie in an act of desperation.
Kelsey Osborne, 23, was charged with a misdemeanor count of injury to a child. She was arraigned in mid-October at Twin Falls County Magistrate Court.
According to Osborne, her daughter Madyson has acted out since she was a toddler. However, one night in early October, after not taking prescribed medication consistently (Risperidone, an antipsychotic medication), she was having a very rough time.
Early that following morning, Madyson’s condition worsened. She began vomiting, showing seizure-like symptoms, and acting out as never before. Her mother didn’t know what else to do, so she prepared a smoothie with marijuana butter. Soon after drinking the smoothie, the child was able to calm down.
However, later that day, during a doctor’s appointment, the girl tested positive for marijuana, and Child Protective Services were called.
“I knew for a fact it would help,” said Osborne. “I knew it would help her, and it did. She laid down for a nap right after. She was begging me to help her, and the only thing I could think of was to give her some cannabis. I knew it would help.”
