Wake Up Energized!

Do you wish you had more energy to start the day?  We have some tips to help even the groggiest morning person wake up feeling refreshed, charged and fully energized:

1 – “Let The Light In” – It has been proven that sunlight affects the bodies circadian rhythm. According to this great article:

Giving yourself exposure to light—
particularly sunlight—in the morning and the early part of the day is one way to improve your alertness and energy during the day, and may help you to fall asleep at night

We recommend that you either open your blinds or use blinds that let natural light in.  The sun will let your body know it’s time to get up!

2 – “Wake Up, Get Up” –  Forgo the snooze alarm.  The extra minutes of sleep are not restful and your brain is already telling you it’s time to get up.  The easiest way to force yourself to avoid “snoozing” is to move your alarm to a part of the room that makes you get out of bed to turn it off.  Trust us, this works.

3 – “Gulp Gulp” – Keep a glass of water next to your bed and drink as the first thing you do when you wake up. The following article sums up the benefits of water first thing in the morning quite nicely:

One of the best things you can do after you wake up: drink at least 16oz (500mL) of water. Water fires up your metabolism, hydrates you, helps your body flush out toxins, gives your brain fuel, and may even make you eat less.

4 – “Get To Bed” – Going to bed and waking up the same time every day greatly improves your quality of sleep and makes getting up in the morning much, much easier.  Try to align your sleep so that you’re sleeping when it’s dark out and waking when it’s light. According to sleepfoundation.org a consistent sleep schedule:

helps to regulate your body’s clock and could help you fall asleep and stay asleep for the night

It is also advisable to skip or shorten any naps during the day if you are prone to sleep issues.

5 – “Eat Light, Eat Right” – Although opposite of how most people eat, for the most energy all day long we recommend eating a light dinner and a big, healthy breakfast. According to this Live Science article:

6 – “Breathe In, Breathe Out” – Morning breathing exercises are a great way to relax your muscles and remove any tension caused by your sleep. It is truly a great way to start the day. Some examples can be found here.
