If you’re like most of America, you struggle with keeping extra weight off. We’re going to dive into five alternative weight loss ideas you might not have tried that could help. If you know of more alternatives that have worked for you, leave us a comment below.
Tune in to what your body is telling you by taking a serious look at meditation. It can help you understand what triggers your cravings, or find the strength needed to retain a firm resolve. Many people find it improves their overall well-being when they take time in their day to reflect on why they want to lose weight (and what’s stopping them).
#2 Forskolin (Ayurvedic Medicinal Herb)
While not everyone is convinced, Forskolin is a botanical herb that has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, and these days it’s available as a supplement with an impressive following.
“Forskolin is a natural compound found in the root of Coleus Forskohlii, which is a purple flowering botanical herb. This powerful compound has been used for centuries in traditional Ayurveda medicine as a means to treat digestive issues, hypertension, and help to heal the heart. In modern times, Forskolin is taken in supplement form to help boost testosterone, build lean muscle mass, lose weight, and address several other health concerns as well.”1
#3 Acupressure for Weight Loss
Similar to acupuncture, but without needles, acupressure has been shown to relieve chronic pain. Strategic pressure applied in target areas can provide obvious short term relief, but it has also been considered an approach to weight loss.
In a 6-month study by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, which compared those in a weight loss support group to those receiving acupressure treatment, participants taking acupressure treatment lost 2.5 pounds on average more than the other group. More research is needed on this one, but if you’re looking for a “whole body” approach to your weight loss plan, it may be worth considering.
#4 Garcinia Cambogia Extract
Extracted from the rind of the tropical fruit Malabar tamarind, this extract is very popular in the alternative weight loss community. Most supporters claim it has the ability to inhibit fat-creation in the body, and helps curb your cravings.
“Garcinia cambogia is a small, pumpkin-shaped fruit native to Indonesia, and commonly harvested in India, Southeast Asia, and West and Central Africa. The popularity of Garcinia cambogia has soared in the past several years, quickly becoming the fastest growing weight management supplement on the market.”2
Perhaps not as “alternative” as one might expect, but it’s still the number one way to train your body to handle food as fuel instead of leisure.
“Exercise does more than just burn calories: It changes your chemistry, releases powerful neurotransmitters, strengthens and revitalizes muscles, increases energy and contributes to happiness, tranquility and a sense of well being. Any attempt at weight loss would be incomplete without it.”3
